This project is in fact two parts: A client and a server.


  1. Install the official Microsoft Kinect SDK, available at
  2. Connect a Microsoft Kinect device to the computer that is running the server.
  3. Check that the links to Microsoft.Research.Kinect are set up properly in KinectServer>References and KinectClient>References

You should then be able to build and run both the server and the client on the server computer. To run them on different computers will require changing the IP address in the code.


What you will see:

The server will display some status messages and also will send X, Y, Z positions of all the joints in tracked skeletons.

The client will display those positions.


To do anything useful with the code at this point would require modifying the KinectClient as desired. Currently it simply outputs the positions to the console.
